How do Car Busters calculate the scrap car value?
The first thing to understand is that the value of your scrap car is linked directly to the global price and value of commodities, such as recycled steel. Scrap metal prices in the UK are always changing – like all commodities they’re influenced by supply and demand.
Here at Car Busters, we always keep up-to-date with the scrap metal prices, trends and the car scrappage market to ensure that we can offer our customers the best price for their scrap. Scrap car values, generally speaking, have been steadily going up over the last several years. This is thanks to stronger regulations and environmental protections for scrapping cars, put into place throughout the UK and EU.
We currently cover the following locations for vehicle scrappage. If you require collection of your vehicle from another location, please contact us and we’ll try to help you.
- Rugby and surrounding villages
- Coventry
- Leamington Spa
- Warwick
- Northampton
- Birmingham
- Leicester
- Wolverhampton
- Nuneaton
Car Busters is an Authorised Treatment Facilitiy (ATF). And ATF’s are the only organisations who are licensed and approved to process the dismantling and disposal of scrap cars.
It is a legal requirement that the ATF produces a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) as soon as they have processed the destruction (scrappage) of a vehicle.
The CoD is electronically submitted by the ATF to DVLA to notify DVLA of the destruction of the vehicle so that the DVLA database can be updated.
Your V5C, also known as a car log book, is proof that you are the registered keeper of the stated vehicle. This only means that you’re responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle, not that you necessarily legally own the car.
The V5C form evidences that the car is registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). It contains all the essential information about your car, such as the name and address of the registered keeper, the date it was first registered, number of previous registered keepers, the car’s Make and Model, colour and engine size.
Following the introduction of The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, it has been made illegal to offer to pay cash for scrap metal, including scrap cars.
This law was put in place to prevent thieves from stealing metal or cars, then selling them to get cash for scrap. Of course, there will still be some people out there who are willing to act illegally and pay cash for a scrap car, but these companies or individuals should be avoided at all costs. If they are willing to pay cash for a scrap car illegally, what other laws and regulations may they be breaking?
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 was brought in largely due to scrap metal theft which had risen so drastically. Previously, there was a complete lack of regulation in the scrap metal industry, which was costing the UK more than £200million. Before The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 was brought in, car scrap metal dealers could pay cash for scrap cars and did not need to keep any sales records. There was also no need for them to obtain identification from the scrap car seller, so it made it very easy for stolen cars to be sold for scrap value.
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, has helped to out an end to illegal scrap car traders and reduce scrap metal theft. A highly regulated scrap car industry means that our customers’ can feel safe in the knowledge that their scrap car will be disposed of and recycled properly and legally, without causing unnecessary harm to the environment.
